This painting is a small diptych on two 14 by 11 inch sheets of textured polypropylene. It's one of the first in the series I'm calling Background Ruler involving detailed pencil work in the background.
In this piece you can see the pencil work expressed as overlapping circles in the top right corner of the left panel. I'm not actually using a ruler, it's all free-hand, but in later pieces in this series a ruler (and a compass) does come into play. This is starting to get to be more about putting a lot of care and attention into the background and middle layers of the painting; it's a lot about what gets obscured, and how the things that are forgotten still have influence on the present.
