Slicing Metaethical Positions marks a turning point in the development of this body of work. The painting begins with the familiar layering of poured and smeared paint alongside decorative patterning, but midway through the process the approach shifts decisively toward brushwork. The surface carries evidence of both strategies: soft veils of poured color and patterned motifs beneath, interrupted by assertive strokes and looping gestures that move more freely across the canvas. A jarring chromatic tension runs through the piece—the hot oranges and reds of the background pushing against cooler blues, purples, and yellows in the middle ground. Over this, delicate black brush lines skate lightly across the surface, acting almost like notation or diagram. The result is playful but searching, a painting that captures a moment where the language of the work visibly changes direction.
