LYNDA JONES
A native of Texan, Lynda Jones grew up in the Rio Grande Valley in the city of EdCouch. She graduated from with a bachelor’s degree from South West Texas and earned a Masters of Art in Independent Studies from Texas AMUCC.
Lynda was the Chair of the Visual Arts Committee for the Corpus Christi Arts and Cultural Commission and held that position at various times for a total of
17 years. She was also a Trustee of the Art Museum of South Texas for 6 years.
An educator for 36 years, Lynda taught art in the Corpus Christi Independent School District and was the founder of the National Art Honor Society in Corpus Christi. She also began the Advanced Placement Art program in Corpus Christi Independent School District.
Lynda is an environmental multi-media artist. Her work tents to be evocative of nature, experimental, whimsical and sometimes functional. She has penchant for the discarded and looks for the aesthetic potential of everyday abandoned objects.
As a lifetime artist, Lynda re-purposes discarded, disposable objects. While doing this, she helps conserve nature by keeping these items out of the landfill and off our beaches. She resurfaces these disposables or embeds them in epoxy to create sculptures that often resemble the body of water that she lives near.
Lynda’s work is held in private collections and can be seen at Wilhelmi/Holland Gallery, Corpus Christi, Texas.
