DENNIS KEMMERER
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dennis has spent the majority of his life in Corpus Christi, Texas. With his father in the military, Dennis also saw stays in Virginia, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. It was Texas where the family made their home after his father’s retirement from the service.
A graduate of Del Mar College, and Corpus Christi State University, Dennis enrolled in the Graduate Program at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, where he received his M.F.A. degree in 1984.
In 1987, Dennis was hired by Corpus Christi Independent School District becoming an art specialist at Chula Vista Academy of Fine Arts. In 2011, as part of a grant, he reapplied for his position at Metro Elementary School of Design (Wynn Seale) where he stayed until his retirement in 2017. Dennis has also taught as an adjunct art instructor in the Art Departments of Del Mar College and Texas A & M University, Corpus Christi.
Between his teaching assignments, Dennis produced work and exhibited as often as time allowed. He had gallery representation with Toni Jones in the 1980’s, and Karen Lanning in the 1990’s. Both galleries were located in Houston, Texas.
Since his retirement from teaching, Dennis continues to produce and exhibit work locally, and enters national competitions. He enjoys dividing his time being in the studio, as well as assisting at the Art Museum of South Texas installing and deinstalling exhibitions. When he is not in the studio, Dennis can be found photographing architectural facades, structures, and landscapes as an aide to his work. He continues to reside in Corpus Christi with his wife Rhonda and their Pomeranian, Brooklyn.
His work is held in private collections.
