Oval shaped painting of a collection of lotus.
Feeling at the time that the traditional rectangular format of the canvas was too limiting, Gilot made her first oval paintings in the early 1970’s. In this canvas, streamers of color and white flow from the centralized lotus motif to pierce the inner oval frame activating the shape in creating a modern mandala. - “Francoise Gilot: Monograph 1940-2000”.
