Kaya Noongar Boodja – Welcome to Noongar Country
The City of Belmont acknowledges the Whadjuk Noongar people as the Traditional Owners of this land and pays its respects to Elders past, present and emerging. It further acknowledges their cultural heritage, beliefs, connection and relationship with this land which continues today.
Six Noongar Seasons: Bunuru, Makuru, Djeran, Birak, Djilba, Kambarang
This artwork design represents the Six Noongar Seasons and the connection these have to the natural environment and Noongar people as well as the importance of this knowledge to understanding and management of Country.
The central sculptural elements represent fire sticks and the smoking circle to symbolise the importance of the Smoking Ceremony in Noongar culture as a way to cleanse, heal and safely welcome others to Country.
Commissioned by the City of Belmont in 2024.
