Drawing allows me to connect closely with the landscape through observation, interpretation, and translating what I see onto paper. In Cremorne Point Light, I was drawn to the stillness of the harbour and the quiet presence of the lighthouse within its surroundings. Using a limited palette, I focused on form, light, and structure—working slowly to reveal the mood of the ocean, sky, and lighthouse. In some ways, I see the lighthouse as a beacon of hope, standing still amidst the shifting skies and seas.
Drawing offers a way of thinking through mark-making, layering tone and line to explore both atmosphere and detail. This work continues my exploration of Sydney’s foreshore and reflects my ongoing interest in the way early Australian Impressionists responded to light and a connection to place.
