Plein air painting in Glacier Park can be eventful. The best painting sites are accessed by short hiking trails, which make it easy for the local wildlife to join in. I was engrossed in painting the depicted scene when a fellow painter on the trail next to me said calmly, "we have a bear" while looking past me. When I turned around the bear was RIGHT behind me. Notice I am not in the picture. He could have my easle and backpack as far as I was concerned. But he turned out to be a friendly chap. After a sideways glance at my easle and a sniff of the backpack, he ambled by to scare other unsuspecting hikers down the trail.
Framed.
