This bright red caboose was painted en plein air at the Izaak Walton Inn in Essex, MT. I was participating in the Plein Air Glacier 2020 event through the Hockaday Museum in Kalispell, MT and painted several pieces in preparation for their auction and sale.
There are a number of restored cabooses onsite at the Izaak Walton Inn. Their cabooses are not just pretty relics, but can also be rented for a nostalgic lodging railway experience. Trains go by daily and visitors in need of a train fix can travel by Amtrak anywhere from Portland to Chicago.
