This brilliant little flower is a bitterroot, state flower of MT. My hubby took a beautiful picture of one I just had to paint. Although my rendition is cropped in close, bitterroots are a small low growing flower found on the sagebrush plains and foothills. They add a splash of color to the usually bland habitat of which they prefer, as pictured in the photo of bitterroots growing in a field near Missoula, MT.
