Kareem Griffen x
Kareem is a multi-medium artist concentrating on the manipulation of paper. He takes junk postage through a process that he has developed to transform the paper into a workable clay. He adds binding ingredients to accomplish this, a type of paper mâché for lack of a better term, BUT times a thousand. Therefore, creating an astonishing 3-D effect to his work.
Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as a young boy he would watch his mother transform old things into useful items all the time. An old floor stereo upright and gutted could be an entertainment system holding the television, VCR AND record player. So discarding is never on his mind.
For whatever reasons he also has felt discarded but has transformed into an artist he could never have imagined. Kareem not only wants you to feel his work, but you can actually FEEL his work. His art reaches out to you as to warrant your touch. When observing his work, you are instantly drawn into the message of each piece as it reaches out to interact with you.
Kareem has shown work at various markets, shows, and individual shows. He has displayed at Digital Nomads downtown Baton Rouge and now has recently been given a space at the new location of the Baton Rouge African American museum. He was also commissioned by UCLA to create the art for the cover of its first Juneteenth Celebration (2024).
