2025 Cafe Art Gallery: Elemental

I had done some painting in high school and college, but after graduation I didn’t have much free time for it, or any space to do the work. I often thought of ideas for paintings, but I couldn’t find any time to paint or do

any kind of artistic drawing for the next 30 years.

After I retired, I was determined to take up painting again. My first painting was something my daughter requested – two lemons talking to each other, based on a sketch that I had done during a rather boring business meeting. Since then, I have continued to paint on a regular basis. I’ve participated in several painting workshops and have exhibited my work in events sponsored by the Art Guild of Louisiana. I joined the Baton Rouge Plein Air Group in September 2022 and have gone with them to paint outdoors almost every Thursday since then.

In the past two years I have done more than 70 plein air paintings, and about 25 studio paintings. I continue to look for new subjects to paint, and ways to improve my technique.
