"The Mask We Wear" Collection
"As we go through life we wear masks, figuratively. When asked 'How are you?' and the answer is 'I’m ok' or 'Everything is fine.', when you could be falling apart inside. This is usually used as a defense mechanism, but it only holds us back. There are so many emotions and intrusive thoughts when dealing with emotional abuse that are usually hidden behind that metaphorical mask. I wanted to depict the chaos, the mental turmoil, the confusion that occurs behind the mask. . . When making these pieces I wanted to convey the emotions and feelings of each piece. Emotional healing is the process of acknowledging, allowing, accepting, integrating, and processing painful life experiences and strong emotions. I wanted to depict the [dark and light side of the] healing process." - Arieal Celestine
