The playwright, Lorraine Hansberry, was the first black woman with a play produced on Broadway. That play was "A Raisin In The Sun." She was 29 years old. The photograph of her in the NYT's was from 1959 in her apartment on Bleeker St in Manhattan. She struggled with questions of crisis and change.
