This painting was inspired by an image of Argentine director Lucrecia Martel, that appeared in a New York Times article about her. Martel “excited and confounds viewers” with her “oblique style, near-documentary fascination with large families and tasted for depicting provincial inertia”. Some consider her to be one of the greatest directors in the world right now.
