This is another painting from my series inspired by photographs featured in the New York Times article "Reflections on 1960, the Year of Africa". The original photo is of a woman outside of a nightclub in Léopoldville (now Kinshasa), Democratic Republic of Congo, circa 1960. It was taken by late photographer Jean Depara, and provided by Revue Noire. The photo is a part of a selection of images that depicts life during and around the Year of Africa - when seventeen African countries declared independence in 1960.
