Lithography Studio Lithograph 2015
3 impressions
This view of the Australian National Art School Sydney Lithography Studio was drawn directly onto the stone. The Art School began at the Darlinghurst Gaol site in 1922 and was designated its current name in 2005. The lithographic stones were mostly garnered from local newspapers when this technology was superseded in printing newspapers.
Building of the original Darlinghurst Gaol began in 1822, with convicts hand-carving the sandstone blocks for the surrounding walls which stood 21 feet (6.5 metres) high when completed in 1824.
