You Can Come Here was created in 2018 as part of the Displaced series — a collection of works made during the 60 days I spent evacuated from my home and studio in Lower Puna following the Kīlauea eruption. The title carries the quiet generosity of that time — the friends and family who opened their doors and said exactly that.
The composition emerged intuitively, beginning without a defined outcome. Washes of teal and coral wrap around a thick, textured swipe of white — grounding and heavy, a mass of new earth cutting through the fluid layers beneath. Blue drips trail downward, unresolved. A work about finding shelter in uncertain times.
