Vimala Vasahi, Richly Carved Ceiling of the Rangamandapa with Lotus Pendant and Goddesses (vidyadevis)
Vimala’s temple is famous in particular for its ceiling decorations, totaling fifty-five with three in the main temple and fifty-two on the subsidiary shrine porches in the courtyard. No two ceilings are alike and are carved with intricate floral and geometric designs, sculpted figures on a patterned background, goddesses of knowledge known as Vidyadevis, or protector/ attendant deities known as yakshis.
