Saraswati, Samatala Ceiling, Vimala Vasahi
Saraswati as the goddess of learning finds representation throughout the history of Jain art. She is accompanied here by a dancing celestial and a musician. This is one among many ornate ceilings at Vimala-Vasahi, some representing the sixteen Vidyadevis (goddesses personifying sciences or types of magical knowledge), one or more of the Yakshis or attendant deities of the Jinas, dik-kumaris (princesses of directions) and others.
