Jain Temple
- Sandstone
- Pattadakal, Karnataka
This Digambara temple within a complex of nine earlier hindu temples is built from sandstone. The temple shares its basic plan with Hindu temples in that it has a standard square inner sanctum topped by a tower, a covered path for circumambulation, and a covered mandapa and porch featuring lathe-turned pillars. Unlike hindu temples, however, this temple features relatively plain walls and only one major Jina image. The temple is built in the Dravidian style, as exemplified by the tower over the sanctum, which is notable for its similarity to the vaulted towers of the famous Dharmaraja temple in nearby Mahabalipuram.
