Exterior View of Gateway Trilokyanatha Jeenaswamy Temple
This gateway in the dravida style leads to two temples in the complex also known as Jina Kanchi. Of these the Chandraprabha temple is the earliest structural Jain temple of the Pallava period dating from the 8th century. The complex was however heavily reconstructed and enlarged during the Vijayanagar period (1336-1646). The other temple in the complex is the later and larger Vardhamana temple dedicated to the 24th Jina Mahavira, locally known as Trailokyanatha. The complex reveals a rich history of patronage patterns through engraved epigraphic records and is particularly well known for the wall murals in the Vardhaman temple.
