Bahubali with Attendants (left) and Parshva with Attendants (right), 6th -12th centuries
Flanking the main shrine dedicated to Mahavira, on either end of the aisle are elaborately carved larger than life sculptures of Bahubali (left) and Parshva, the 23rd Jina on the right. Bahubali also known as Gommateshwara, stands in the kayotsarga (meditative) posture with vines creeping up his legs and is attended to by Vidyadharis who move the creepers and his brother Bharata kneeling at his feet. Parshva stands meditating, is protected by the characteristic serpent hood, and attended by a yakshi (Padmavati) holding a parasol above his head as well as a devotee seated at his feet.
