A map of Sammeta Shikhara as it has been recreated at Siddhachalam in New Jersey
Regarded as the first place of Jain pilgrimage outside India, Siddhachalam in New Jersey was founded in 1983 by Acharya Sushil Kumarji. Going against the established norms, Kumarji traveled outside India with the intention of promoting the Jain path as taught by Mahavira. In 2009, Siddhachalam commissioned a cartographer to map the tunks at Sammeta Shikara and in line with the vision of its founder, the layout of Siddhachalam was found to mirror that of the summit at Sammeta Shikhara. This led to the replication of the tirtha on a smaller scale at Siddhachalam with a vision to offer the experience of making a pilgrimage to a holy place outside the land of its origin, “bringing alive the feeling of tirtha darshan.”
