Higher Self Ascending was inspired from a sketch I made of a figure in a vortex of energy. I worked on the swirling vortex for a long time, then decided to have it emerge from a crystalline spire. It is a rock element that comes up from the earth. It transforms from rock to fire to thought energy. The figure was created last. As I posed the figure I clearly saw that I wanted it to emerge from the swirl as if emerging from chaos. The figure is intended to be representation of my higher self, or anyone’s best nature, emerging from the chaos of our own experiences as an empowered being that is Christ-like in healing power. The figure itself is not a representation of Jesus, but a reminder that we humans have the potential to emerge as empowered creators—like Jesus. The energy of suffering can propel us forward. If suffering can drown us, we can also float above it like a wave of opportunity to grow to a better place. I made this at a time when I was tired of the suffering I was causing myself. I chose to stop drowning and start floating.
