This piece represents the adage “It takes a village to raise the children”. The Art of the Black Experience draws us closer to the beloved and respected asymmetrical family ties that mirror the reality of our shared community. Many of us from New Orleans can relate to having the Auntie or “Teedy” that was more like a mom, enduring all the pain and standing strong through it all. This work is an ode to the irrepressible Black Women who are dedicated to our greatness and support us with unwavering love.
