This piece entitled Darker Than a Paper Bag with Four-C Hair is an abstract commentary on the infamous paper bag test and comb tests that were used in Louisiana and the rest of America among the black middle class to excluded people who were darker than a paper bag and/or people with 4c type hair ( aka nappy) from certain social clubs, fraternal and business organizations. The piece itself is made from pieces of wood from my hurricane Katrina and now Ida damaged home in my wooden quilt style inspired by my great grandmother's patchwork quilts. Hidden in plain sight within the collage of wood is a fragment of an old afro-pick and tiny prayer petitons on pieces of paper bags.
