A project of Arts New Orleans, Unframed presented by The Helis Foundation introduces it's 11th large-scale outdoor mural installation, “The Welcoming Committee” by local artist Annie Moran. Known for her work celebrating the nature and culture of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region, Moran’s vibrant mural is located above the Girod Street overpass. Created in partnership with ASM Global, Zelia Corporate Realty, Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District and Greater New Orleans Inc., the mural welcomes visitors to downtown New Orleans with imagery that captures Annie the magic of the city’s culture including carnival, music, the culinary arts and pageantry.

This mural will be completed in two installments, the first central design will be executed before the Super Bowl and will be expanded across the wall in March 2025.

“The Welcoming Committee” beautifully reflects the vibrancy and movement of life in New Orleans, leaving a timeless work of art for visitors and locals alike. The mural’s composition features figures representing the city’s diverse people, engaging in various aspects of New Orleans culture. At its center, a Mardi Gras Indian Queen stands regally, arms outstretched in a welcoming gesture.

This mural celebrates the city’s rich cultural tapestry, and the unified interests and traditions forged over centuries, serving as a reflective tribute to the enduring spirit and vibrant allure of New Orleans and its people.
