Acting as an instructor in technique and fabrication, artist/photographer Clifton Faust guided selected students, grades 3 – 6, through a semester of photographing familiar sights within walking distance of Craig School. Going on field trips and having visitors come to the class allowed the students a chance to record the people and places that make up their historic community.
The resulting photos were used to create Treme Portraits, a photo-transfer montage consisting of sixteen 4’x4’ panels. The wooden “mural” enhances the living environment of the students’ Treme neighborhood. Its placement in the NORD Treme Center just across the street from Craig School allows it to be accessed and enjoyed by the greatest number of area residents for years to come.
