In some of my most recent work, I’ve combined a practice in quilt making of using scraps of leftover fabric with recycled quality art paper from discarded prints (nothing goes to waste!) into what I describe as “quilted paper.” This is a process I started working with after the levees breached in August 2005 and began a series entitled Unfinished Business. The idea of unfinished business refers to life before and after the storm on many levels, not all necessarily negative.
Some projects started earlier were put on hold to complete the more urgent ones, which is often described as the time we need to step back, heal ourselves, our situations, and each other before moving forward as individual or communities.
