Queen Amazon is a depiction of my grandmother when she was crowned the first ever Queen of her Carnival Krewe, The Amazons, in 2018. Every year Carnival is a time for Black and Indigenous people of color to celebrate their culture and connect to their roots. We adorn ourselves in feathers and crowns and treat each other like royalty. It is a display of ancestral memory that can only happen in New Orleans.
