The Black experience begins for many Black children by being punished harshly in school by white teachers who "mean well." In New Orleans the Black experience for many children is second lines, Mardi Gras parades, and intense moments of community joy. The way children experience the world should be like a second line; exciting, loud, and full of connection. This photograph freezes this moment of childhood in time, allowing a permanent moment of reflection on the true experience of Black children.
