Deeply Rooted is a mural dedicated to the oak trees and businesses that were displaced in the construction of the Claiborne Bridge. Claiborne Avenue was home to the largest stretch of oak trees in New Orleans, in which, the community’s youth used this space to play. Claiborne was also home to a thriving corridor of black owned businesses. The construction of the Claiborne Bridge directly displaced and impacted these businesses leaving a once thriving neighborhood riddled with economic and social issues. To memorialize the the loss of the oak trees, the trees are depicted as being uprooted and revealing their mighty roots. Within these roots are lost momentums that symbolize the various businesses that were displaced.
