Clown Alley, a 10’ x 20’ blue and white circus tent tunnel filled with smoke and crisscrossed laser beams, is an immersive entry point to the festival. Participants try to move as fast as possible without breaking any of the lasers and setting off alarms (creepy clown laughs?). The white stripes on the outside of the tent is glowing due to light projection on the inside marking where the current participant is located and showing everyone when they trip a laser. The sound in the tent is a bass heavy playlist, plunging participants into the moment. Upon emerging from the alley they transported to the world of luna fete: the shadow circus. Arduinos will run the majority of the lights and sensors. The laser gates will be constructed of green laser pointers and photoresistors. Strings of neopixel rgb lights will run the length of the floor and face outward to illuminate the sides of the tent. Speakers at the entrance will be controlled with a phone or mp3 player. An additional goal for this project is to have a “start” and “stop” button that record participant time and errors, creating a score and a leaderboard publicly displayed on a screen. This would be done via raspberry pi interfacing with the arduinos. A second goal is to have a camera inside the tent and projector outside of the tent to widen the experience at any given moment.
