Artist: Herreast J. Harrison
Herreast J. Harrison, is a mother of four, fifth-generation quilter, an accomplished beadwork and quilt artist, curator, and co-founder of Guardians Institute, a New Orleans non-profit. In addition to her artwork being exhibited, she has curated exhibitions globally. Her honors include; LEH’s Light Up for Literacy, and the 2021 Ashé Cultural Arts Center’s Grand Griot.
Through the Big Chief Donald Harrison, Sr. Book Club, Harrison has gifted more than 40,000 new books to children. She remains active at 85 years old; she is currently curating an exhibition at the state capital featuring women and girls’ ceremonial attire.
