Eric Paul Julien was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and raised on his family’s Africa Plantation in Modeste, 45 minutes northwest of New Orleans on the west bank of the Mississippi River. For Julien, Africa Plantation was a spiritual place that put him in touch with nature and stimulated his imagination. As a young child, he would climb to the very top of Africa with his little brother and, under the stars and moon, would tell stories of how he was going to travel around the world.
After Julien's father taught him how to use his Nikon FT2, Julien began to travel through the world of fine art photography and mixed media collage. Since 2005 his journey has taken him into a new world of mixed media fine art. Julien's work (paintings, mixed media, collage and photography) has been exhibited in the United States and Europe, including at the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Louisiana State Museum, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the CAC in New Orleans.
In 2010, the University of New Orleans Press published "Before During After: Louisiana Photographers Visual Reactions to Hurricane Katrina," a companion to the international traveling exhibition. Julien's work has been covered by the Sunday Times Magazine, Gambit Weekly, Houston Chronicle, Greater Houston Weekly, Louisiana Life Magazine, Linda, de Fotograaf and many other international newspapers and magazines.
