Artist and curator Dan Piersol fled New Orleans from Hurricane Katrina and settled in Jackson, Mississippi. He had been a curator at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) for 25 years and, coincidentally, Mississippi Museum of Art (MMA) was seeking a chief curator. Piersol retired from MMA as curator emeritus in 2011.
