Albert Cooper was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He came to New Orleans in 1990 to study art at Xavier University. Upon completion, Cooper remained in New Orleans and stayed active in the arts community as a business owner and arts advocate. He has worked as a Gallery Director, Curator, Publisher, Editor, and custom picture framer all while consistently exhibiting and selling art.
Cooper's work covers various social and political issues with underlying themes of perception and relationships. By weaving lines in and out of space, what is perceived to be positive becomes negative and vice-versa, challenging the viewer to explore all aspects of the composition.
Cooper's work is meant to be a long term conversation with its viewer(s). It slowly reveals itself over time; the more you engage, the more you learn. As in our daily lives, if we take the time to engage and converse with one another, we become enlightened and educated, rather than passing judgment based on uninformed and preconceived ideas.
