A former freelance illustrator and the official poster artist for the 2000 and 2010 Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, Tate has also illustrated more than a dozen books and countless magazine covers and articles, served as Illustrator-in-Residence for the Gibbes Museum of Art, and has been awarded numerous distinguished honors for his paintings and illustrations. Tate's festive acrylic paintings, noticeably influenced by Caribbean art, are held in private and public collections worldwide.
