Arts in Healing
Raw Bottle by Maria White Image: I am inspired by the forms, textures and patterns that I discover in the natural world. Light is an integral part of my work and I am interested in how it interacts with the objects I create. I explore how light is reflected, absorbed, radiated, and experienced. Working primarily in porcelain, most of my pieces are thrown on the potter’s wheel and carved while other vessels are cast to achieve translucency. I strive to create work that celebrates both form and function.

For this exhibition, I chose "Raw Bottle" ; it is a piece that, while both minimal and elegant, has openings or windows into the form that suggest detritus and invites the viewer to take a deeper look into the vessel and notice where light plays. As human beings, we all have wounds, scars and evidence of pain; some are visible and some are not. Despite this, we are stronger than we realize and have radiance within us, always. I hope this can serve as a reminder to ask for help if you are in pain and shine on.
