Fresh. Light. Creation. Warmth. Peaceful. Joyful. Contrast. Surprise.
These are words that describe what I want my paintings to convey. My goal in painting is to cause the viewer to have the desire to step on the path, look at that tree, feel the sunlight, sense the water.
I have always liked to draw, as far back as I can remember. I took art classes in school and privately. When I went to college, after two years of other studies, I changed my major to art. After that third year in college I went to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I worked in production art and during those years painted in watercolors. While raising 3 children I put painting aside.
My son was working in a gallery and sent me pictures of new work. One painting caught my attention and he told me it was done with soft pastels. I was intrigued and purchased some pastels and paper and have never looked back.
In the past five years I have studied under master pastelists Karen Margulis, Lyn Asselta, Marla Baggetta, Alain Picard, Rita Kirkman, Jen Evenhus, Teresa Saia and Richard McKinley. I have also studied with pastelist Laura Pollack. I am an associate member of the Pastel Society of America, the Pastel Society of North Carolina, the Appalachian Pastel Society and Chatham County Artists' Guild.
