"Exploring the Joy of Color”
Cassie Adams is an artist and designer based in Raleigh, NC. She has a BA in Visual Arts from
Duke University and an Associates from Parsons in Interior Design. Having lived half her life in
North Carolina and the other half in the cities of New York and DC, her inspiration is rooted in
the juxtaposition between nature and the urban landscape. In her work, she explores the
interplay of these elements through a medium of vibrating layers of color, creating rhythmic
compositions, reflecting light and dark, city and landscape. She splits her time between creating
art and her interiors practice where she designs colorful spaces for clients and uses her artwork
to create patterns for her textile and wallpaper collections. When she’s not in her studio, you'll
find her with her husband and two amazing little humans, often playing in the garden or having a
dance party.
Exhibition Title: “Exploring the Joy of Color”
“My inspiration is rooted in the juxtaposition between nature and the urban landscape. Nothing
brings me more joy than to capture the beauty of those two worlds through a combination of
vibrant colors, layers, and patterns. I am particularly inspired by the feeling of summertime: the
wild nature of a meadow, the movement of the tides, and twilight when the lightning bugs come
out. I work in several mediums, often combining paint, collage, and oil pastel. Recently, I’ve
embarked on marrying them in a digital format, thrilled with the the notion that these individual
pieces could create something greater together. My process begins with hand cut paper and
original paintings in acrylic and watercolor. I then photograph or scan sections of these works in
order to enlarge and arrange them, creating beautifully layered works (In Bloom is on view in
this exhibition).
