I am fascinated by the cascading ridges of the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains in Western North Carolina. Instead of paint on canvas, I use the colors, patterns and textures in fabric to “paint” my landscapes. I also paint my own fabric to further develop the effect I am trying to create. This quilt was created from a photo I took from the top of Mount Mitchell. The sky and clouds are my own hand painted fabric, and the mountains and tree shapes are commercial batiks. The quilt itself took about a week to design, a week to assemble, and six weeks to quilt and finish.
