Global influences encircle this tall umbrella pot, as its shape is a synthesis of Pre-Dynastic Egyptian re-ware funerary jars and 19th century Randolph County pickling jars. Meanwhile the decoration adapts West African textured rouletting, and the glaze is based on the Southern alkaline glazes found in the Western Piedmont of North Carolina. Out of complexity comes coherence.
