This textile artwork was inspired by plant life (horsetails, clover, tree bark) observed and photographed during my field work in the rain forest at Cape Perpetua, Oregon. I selected, enlarged, and digitally printed my photographs onto several types of fabric, then joined panels of the printed fabrics to depict the many contrasting greens in the landscape. Because of the abundant rainfall and gentle climate, many kinds of plants, also native to other parts of the US, grow to “super-size” and crowd densely under the exceptionally tall tree canopy. As a solitary hiker, I felt surrounded and enveloped in lush greenness, a feeling of enclosure I tried to convey with the close-up views of the plants.
