In Arches National Park, Utah, these large vertical slabs of colorful Jurassic-age Entrada Sandstone stand like skyscrapers along a city street. Their street is called Park Avenue.
The Entrada is a massive cross-bedded sandstone that formed in a desert around 200 million years ago.
The sides of the fins are streaked or stained with desert varnish of red (iron) or black (manganese), indicating places where water runs off the rocks.
