Chris Navarro is a true Wyoming Cowboy, Team Roper, Former Rodeo and Bronco Rider who became a self-educated Award Winning Bronze Sculptor, creating, since 1986, beautiful monumental bronzes in the areas of wildlife, Native Americans, inspirational, rodeo and western art. He has been sculpting professionally since 1986. With over 34 monumental bronze sculptures placed throughout the country, his work also includes 11 museum collections. He is the author of 4 inspirational books sharing his life and are entitled, “Chasing the Wind”, “Embrace the Struggle”, “Dare To Dream Big” and “The Art of Rodeo”.
He has been commissioned to create bronze monumental sculptures throughout the country, including the bronze in memory of "World Champion Bull Rider Lane Frost" located at Frontier Park in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Some of his other Wyoming monuments in this area include a life-size "T Rex" for the Tate Museum in Casper; a 16 foot tall bronze of the famous bucking horse "Steamboat" for the University of Wyoming, a 10 foot tall “Buffalo Soldier” in Cheyenne and “Dare To Dream Big” at the Boys and Girls Clubs in Cheyenne and Casper, Wyoming.
As a competitive team roper and former bull and bronc rider, family, horses, and art have been the driving passions of his life. He loves what he does for a living and hopes others can see and feel that through the work he has created and continues to create. Navarro believes that when you love what you are doing, the real reward is in the experience of doing it.
Chris says his sculpture, “Family Ties”, which shows a big brother bending down on his knees tying the shoelaces of his little sister, is about the bond and connection between family members. He is protective and looking after her and making sure she is safe, while she looks down on him with a big smile on her face and love in her eyes.
This angelic scene would make any mom or dad proud of the love and protection shown by big brother, but it may also trigger other memories, like the big brother standing next to you saying, “just for the record, I never tied your shoes” or thinking about the time big brother tied your laces together so you couldn’t follow him out the door.
In either case, the devoted or jokester, this sculpture does reminds us of the importance of the incredible bond with brothers and sisters as life speeds by, especially when the parents are no longer alive.
