Artist: Henry Gamley (Scottish, d. 1928)
Henry Snell Gamley (commonly called Harry Gamley) (1865–1928) was a Scottish sculptor specializing in war memorials and sculpture on tombs. He was however also responsible for other figurative sculpture on prominent Edinburgh buildings such as the Usher Hall and works at Holyrood Palace.
Gamley was one of Scotland's leading sculptors in bronze and at one point was consulted as to the feasibility of reworking the Turnerelli group in this medium, but it had to be abandoned on grounds of expense.
Gamley never had the satisfaction of seeing his project for a full-scale statue of Poet Robert Burns come to fruition, for he died a year before his bronze was unveiled in Gilchrist Park at the corner of Randall and Pioneer Avenues, Cheyenne, Wyoming in November 1929.
