Recycled Whimsy by Peter Vanni

In his 30-year career as an artist and fabricator, Minnesota-based metalworker Peter Vanni has crafted thousands of objects for designers, artists, builders, businesses, and homeowners across the country. From furniture and architectural pieces to memorials and sacred art, Vanni creates pieces of all sizes and significance.

While producing his commissions, Vanni often finds himself with leftover pieces of metal with interesting shapes, textures, patinas, and forms. He uses these pieces and combines them in creative ways to make original sculptures. Sometimes, the remnants resemble familiar things, such as the goofy sheepskin chaps of "Buckaroo Bot" or the blades of "Pinwheel." Starting with just a spark of inspiration, Vanni follows his whimsy, adding and modifying elements to bring his sculptures to life.

The figures and forms that materialize in the wake of these commissions tend to share a lighthearted character, in contrast to the often serious and practical nature of the original commissions.
