In the midst of travel’s movement and momentum, Sanctuary for the Soul offers a space to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with a sense of calm. Born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, Natalie McGuire creates work grounded in the belief that art can restore the mind, body, and spirit. Even in transit, there is space for stillness.
McGuire’s signature works, which she calls “Photozaics,” are a distinctive fusion of fine art photography and hand-crafted, mosaiced stained-glass frames. Each piece pairs a striking landscape photograph with an intricately constructed frame, creating a layered dialogue between image and object. The bold integration of materials transforms the photograph into a luminous, dimensional experience. McGuire describes these works as a fearless celebration of creativity, art that speaks directly to the soul and captures emotion in every detail.
Travel is central to her practice. Inspired by road trips across the United States and shaped by early exposure to the photography of Ansel Adams and the painterly landscapes of Bob Ross, McGuire seeks immersion in the natural world. Vast skies, quiet waters, and expansive terrain become meditations on presence. Through her lens and glasswork, she shares the restorative power she finds in these places.
A multi-award-winning artist since 2003, McGuire has received honors including Student Photographer of the Year in 2012, as well as First Place, Juror’s Choice, and People’s Choice awards at exhibitions locally and nationally from 2019 to the present. She continues to exhibit her work across the United States.
